[Create mod] How to control a rotation speed controller over short distance

I want to control an RSC over a small distance, making it not adjacent to the computer. I've tried wired modems, one connected to the computer, then cables connecting to another modem facing/connected to the RSC, but that doesn't work. Its weird it doesn't work when looking through docs of CC on both CC:T and Create's wiki suggestion that would work, unless im getting it wrong. Any help is appreciated!

have you right clicked the modem that is connected to the RSC and gotten a chat message about a peripheral being added to the network or something (I forget exactly what the message says)?
