I'm wondering if there's any plans to get the VMU functionality of this project in a way where it can interface with regular Dreamcast controllers, similar to the PS1 picomemcard git project. In other words rp2040 interfacing with the VMU slot, rather than a controller port.
Not sure how far this project is from making it into something like that, but I imagine the communication stuff for the VMU connection is probably a hurdle.
With the amount of readily available failure prone third party 2/4-bank memory cards for Dreamcast there are it would be a great way to repurpose them with a more reliable and replaceable rp2040. Got a couple of irreparably corrupted third party memory units like that laying around myself.
