and the mod was rewritten completely with 3.0 to fix the water zoom issue.

The steam version is a convenience for those who want to play the game easily/legally.

At the end of the day, the Steam version is emulation. If you're going to pirate the emulated steam version, you might as well just find a rom and play it normally on a standalone emulator - you'll likely have a better experience doing so anyway since you won't have all the bugs that are unique to the M2Engage emulator.

This is entirely a you-problem. Not a problem with Konami, not a problem with the game, and not a problem with this mod.

Buy the game and the mod will work correctly.
