Custom domain HTTPS certificate stuck in "new" for over 15 hours

Hi everyone,

I added a custom domain to my GitHub Pages site yesterday. The site works over http, but the HTTPS certificate has been stuck in state "new" ("The certificate request process will begin shortly") for more than 15 hours, so I can't enable "Enforce HTTPS".

DNS is set up as described in the docs (A records for the apex, a CNAME for www, no AAAA or CAA records). I re-added the domain a few times early on, but stopped after reading that this restarts the process.

Is this kind of wait normal? Is there anything else I should check, or can someone from GitHub take a look? Thanks!
