CodePals.io Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing and using CodePals.io ("Platform"), you agree to comply with these Terms of Service and all applicable laws. If you disagree with any part of these terms, you may not use the Platform.

2. Description of Service

CodePals.io is a developer mentorship and connection platform designed to foster meaningful relationships, knowledge sharing, and professional growth within the developer community. The Platform facilitates connections between developers at different experience levels, enables help requests, event participation, and community engagement.

3. User Eligibility & Account Responsibility

You must be at least 18 years old (or the legal age of majority in your jurisdiction) to use this Platform. Users under 18 may participate only with parental/guardian consent, as described in our Parental Consent Policy.

You are responsible for:

  • Maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials
  • All activity under your account
  • Notifying us immediately of unauthorized access
  • Ensuring your profile information is accurate and current

4. User Conduct & Community Standards

You agree NOT to:

  • Harass, abuse, defame, or threaten any user
  • Post spam, malware, or deceptive content
  • Violate intellectual property rights
  • Share confidential information (e.g., source code, proprietary data) without permission
  • Engage in illegal activity
  • Impersonate others or misrepresent your identity
  • Circumvent security measures

Violations may result in content removal, account suspension, or permanent termination at our discretion.

5. Content Ownership & License

Your Content: You retain all rights to content you create (posts, help requests, profiles). By posting on the Platform, you grant CodePals.io a non-exclusive, worldwide license to use, display, and distribute your content for Platform operations and improvement.

Platform Content: CodePals.io retains ownership of all Platform features, design, and documentation. You may not reproduce, distribute, or modify Platform content without permission.

6. Third-Party Services

CodePals.io integrates with third-party services (e.g., GitHub OAuth for authentication). Use of these services is subject to their respective terms of service and privacy policies. We are not responsible for third-party service availability, content, or practices.

7. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW:

  • CodePals.io is provided "AS IS" without warranties of any kind.
  • We are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use or inability to use the Platform.
  • Our total liability is limited to the amount you paid (if any) in the 12 months preceding the claim.

8. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless CodePals.io, its founders, and contributors from any claims, damages, or costs (including legal fees) arising from:

  • Your violation of these Terms
  • Your use of the Platform
  • Your violation of any law or third-party rights
  • Content you post or transmit

9. Modification of Terms

We may update these Terms at any time. Material changes will be announced via email or on-site notification. Continued use of the Platform after changes constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.

10. Termination

CodePals.io reserves the right to terminate or suspend your account immediately for:

  • Violation of these Terms
  • Engagement in harmful or illegal activity
  • Abuse of Platform resources
  • Non-compliance with community standards

You may request account deletion at any time by contacting us via GitHub or Discord.

11. Privacy

Your use of the Platform is governed by our Privacy Policy. Please review it to understand our data practices.

12. Dispute Resolution

If you have a dispute with CodePals.io:

  1. Contact us via GitHub Issues or Discord with details
  2. We will attempt to resolve the matter in good faith
  3. If unresolved within 30 days, disputes may be escalated per applicable law

13. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by applicable laws. Specific jurisdiction TBD based on CodePals.io incorporation location (pending).

14. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in effect.
