Python script to automate firmware snapshot/backup operations on Juniper EX.
This script processes CSV reports from the report_switch_firmware.py script to
identify and remediate switches with missing snapshot or backup firmware
partitions.
Key features:
- Automated identification of switches needing firmware backup
- CSV-based input from firmware reporting tools
- Site-specific filtering for targeted operations
- Bulk processing with progress tracking
- Safety confirmation prompts (unless auto-approved)
- Support for both standalone and clustered switches
How it works:
1. Reads CSV report identifying switches needing firmware backup
2. Filters switches based on site criteria (if specified)
3. Displays list of affected switches for user review
4. Triggers firmware snapshot/backup API calls for each switch
5. Monitors and reports operation success/failure
Use cases:
- Preventive maintenance to ensure backup firmware availability
- Remediation after firmware upgrade issues
- Compliance with backup firmware policies
- Disaster recovery preparation
- Mass deployment firmware backup operations
IMPORTANT: This script triggers firmware backup operations that may impact
switch performance during execution. Use during maintenance windows when possible.
-------
Requirements:
mistapi: https://pypi.org/project/mistapi/
-------
Usage:
This script can be run as is (without parameters), or with the options below.
If no options are defined, or if options are missing, the missing options will
be asked by the script or the default values will be used.
It is recommended to use an environment file to store the required information
to request the Mist Cloud (see https://pypi.org/project/mistapi/ for more
information about the available parameters).
-------
Options:
-h, --help display this help
-s, --site_id= Set the site_id if only devices from a specific site must be
processed. If not set, the script will process all the devices
from the report that need a firmware backup
-f, --in_file= path to the report generated by the report_switch_firmware script
default is "./report_switch_firmware.csv"
--auto-approve Does not ask for user confirmation before triggering the
firmware backup API Calls
-l, --log_file= define the filepath/filename where to write the logs
default is "./script.log"
-e, --env= define the env file to use (see mistapi env file documentation
here: https://pypi.org/project/mistapi/)
default is "~/.mist_env"
-------
Examples:
python3 ./fix_switch_backup_firmware.py
python3 ./fix_switch_backup_firmware.py --site_id=203d3d02-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-76896a3330f4
