Issue with the spaces bar and the macOS island

Tha macOS island covers the spaces bar at the top. macOS Tahoe 26.4

It doesn't show in this image, but the island is right in the middle. I've seen some other apps doing some cool things with the island and maybe that is an option here?

@dwstevens Hey, I like how you think, because that’s exactly what I already plan to do. First, I need to polish a few things and bring the Dwindle layout up to the same usability level as the Niri layout. The Dynamic Island feature is definitely planned too, and it will incorporate workspaces along with other functionality like media controls, reminders, and more. Thank you for using Omni ❤️

For now, you can move the workspaces bar so it doesn’t get in the way of the notch. You can also hide status bar icons by right clicking the Omni status bar icon and dragging the icons to the left of “/”. Later, it will all be incorporated into the Dynamic Island.

Hello, using OmniWM for a first time on latest Tahoe 26.3.1 and it is an amazing window manager! Lot of thanks for creating it!

Still - having a serious problem - part of the workspace bar goes under the island, all other icons on the icon bar got invisible, and I can't open the settings of OmniWM, as its icon is now invisible (i see only worspaces/app icons inside, but no other menybar icons). Docs says I could define a hotkey, but to get to the settings I seems have no way to open them.

Any help is greatly appreciated?

@stamov Can you try this in your terminal (I don't have a mac laptop with a notch so I need to see if this works so I can make a patch or if I still need to make other code changes besides default settings):

As I am planning on doing a dynamic island (Something like Alcove) for the workspace bar and would rather that this fixes yoru issue than do deeper codebase edits to make it work only to have to go back and remvoe them as I implement dynamic island.

Original idea was if notch detected move workjspace right of notch, but it doesnt work as not everyone is same, i foudn out the hard way that some peopelk have a lot of background running apps. Temporarily I made if notch detected to instead of shift it right to make it below macos staus bar, but users still have the option via gui settings to move that bar anywhere they wish. The idea im privately working on is for OmniWM bar to cover the whole macos stratus bar but hide/unhiode via hotkey, this will allow for me to have more freedom and add some extra widgets without steeling the screen real estate, and end goal is once its stable to make it so that users can customize it and share their customizations sometyhing like quickshell on linux but with less freedom as I would only allow the space the macos status bar takes to be customized, as I don't want to deal with anomaly bugs with too much freedom and especially i dont want to allow users to customize for the looks but to be constrained where they have to think and be creative to make their customizations beautiful yet workflow efficient.

So in short I gave up on idea of dynamic island like Alcove, as its not workflow efficent and its a screen real estate hog, but I do agree that the current bar needs to give users more customizations for theiur wpork fl;ows, like adding stas (cpu/gpu/bandwidth usage) and other stuff, yet at same time fitting into apples design philosophy, so I am aiming for Noctalia feel, not only because I know the maintainer but because since CachyOS he had always the same mentality as me and passion and goals, so in short expect eventually Omni's bar to be Noctalia feel, elegant, useful, intuitive, and workflow efficiewnt.

@albinkc The settings should allow you to customize its position. If they don’t, that’s a bug and I’ll fix it.

For now, smaller workspace bar related bugs are postponed since I’m redesigning that system. The end goal is to let users share their customizations, similar to QuickShell or Waybar, but focused only on the bar rather than the entire desktop so more like way bar in its scope but this customization will be at a later date before summer, the workspace redesign will be soon within the next week or two as I'm testing every single macOS and Linux bar framework to see what I like or don't like so I can decide on the direction and design.
