Understanding Staging in Sliver

I've been trying to understand staging in Sliver but find the multiple stager-generation commands confusing. Sliver provides several commands for creating stagers:

profiles stage ...
implants stage ...
generate stager ...
stage-listener ...

What does each command do, and how do the concepts differ between these two documentation sources?

Why does stage-listener ... generate a implants instead of using the existing ones?

The staging features need a re-design as different people have added different features and that don't mesh well together, give me a little time to cleanup these features, but basically stage-listener and implants stage (used by the tutorial) are just different implementations of staging the payloads, they're not interoperable and have different staging features/protocols.
