Action Performed:

1. Go to staging.new.expensify.com
2. Go to workspace chat.
3. Create two expenses.
4. Go to Spend > All expenses.
5. Open any expense.
6. Click on the report header subtitle link.

Expected Result:

Expense report will open in super wide RHP on Spend tab.

Actual Result:

Expense report opens in central pane on Inbox tab.
When Step 4 is done on wide RHP on Inbox, the report opens on central pane instead of super wide RHP.

Detailed Analysis

Evidence

PR #85234 introduced a TAB_NAVIGATOR (createBottomTabNavigator) that wraps all top-level full-screen navigators (REPORTS_SPLIT_NAVIGATOR, SEARCH_FULLSCREEN_NAVIGATOR, SETTINGS_SPLIT_NAVIGATOR, WORKSPACE_NAVIGATOR) as tab children. Before this change, those navigators were registered directly as routes in the root stack.

The bug lives in src/components/ParentNavigationSubtitle.tsx, in the onPress handler (the subtitle link the user clicks on the expense report header). This code calls useRootNavigationState and looks for the last full-screen route:

After PR #85234, isFullScreenName now returns true for NAVIGATORS.TAB_NAVIGATOR (added to FULL_SCREENS_SET in src/libs/Navigation/helpers/isNavigatorName.ts). This means currentFullScreenRoute.name is always NAVIGATORS.TAB_NAVIGATOR instead of the previously-returned NAVIGATORS.SEARCH_FULLSCREEN_NAVIGATOR or NAVIGATORS.REPORTS_SPLIT_NAVIGATOR.

The onPress handler contains two critical conditional checks that gate the correct "stay in Spend tab / super wide RHP" behavior:

1. if (currentFullScreenRoute?.name === NAVIGATORS.SEARCH_FULLSCREEN_NAVIGATOR && isMoneyRequestReport(report)) — navigates via ROUTES.SEARCH_MONEY_REQUEST_REPORT (super wide RHP on Spend tab)
2. if (Navigation.getTopmostSuperWideRHPReportID() === parentReportID && currentFullScreenRoute?.name === NAVIGATORS.REPORTS_SPLIT_NAVIGATOR) — dismisses to super wide RHP on Reports tab

Both conditions now always evaluate to false because currentFullScreenRoute.name is TAB_NAVIGATOR. The code falls through to the final fallback:

Navigation.navigate(ROUTES.REPORT_WITH_ID.getRoute(parentReportID));

This navigates to the parent expense report via the generic route, which opens it in the central pane on the Inbox tab — exactly the symptom reported.

The issue is staging-only (not reproducible in production), and PR #85234 was merged on 2026-04-24, shortly before this staging version (9.3.62-5) was built. The StagingDeployCash confirms PR #85234 is included at position 124 in the chronologically ordered list.

• The PR's merge date (2026-04-24) aligns with when this staging build was produced

Root Cause

ParentNavigationSubtitle.tsx identifies the current navigation context by finding the last "full-screen" route. PR #85234 added TAB_NAVIGATOR to the set of full-screen route names and made it the outermost wrapper for all content navigators. As a result, the currentFullScreenRoute selector now always returns the TAB_NAVIGATOR route rather than the specific inner navigator (SEARCH_FULLSCREEN_NAVIGATOR or REPORTS_SPLIT_NAVIGATOR). The conditional branches that handle "open parent report in Spend tab / super wide RHP" require the more specific navigator names and are never entered, causing the navigation to fall through to the generic Inbox-tab report route.

The fix would need to either unwrap the active tab from TAB_NAVIGATOR when computing currentFullScreenRoute, or update the comparisons in ParentNavigationSubtitle.tsx to check the active tab inside TAB_NAVIGATOR instead of comparing directly against the wrapper navigator name.
