Friends list shows when a friend is playing a game, but not what it is.

When a friend is online and playing a game, in the friends list it shows they're playing but can't acquire the game title.
"Currently Playing:
Could not acquire this software's title"

This was when playing an official game, not homebrew.

Though in your own friend list it shows you the game name and icon of what you're playing.

Can you provide an example of a game this happens with? It sounds like you don't have the title installed on your side, and the console isn't able to download it from the IDBE server

I get this too, and it seems like Jon is right about not having the title Installed into the system, not cartridge. For example, I have Animal Crossing: New Leaf installed to my system, and one friend starts to play that. The game shows up on my Friend List. However, with other games that I don't own, they do not show.

We already know how this works. When the friends server tells your console what games your friends are playing, your console first checks to see if you have that title installed. If so then it uses the data from your local installation. If not, it tries to query for the data from the IDBE server. We don't have an IDBE server currently over copyright concerns since we would have to redistribute official Nintendo assets (the IDBE files contain the titles image graphics), and recreating the assets by hand is extremely time consuming

Could the IDBE server not have an initial implementation that's just the game name and exclude the games icon graphics (or just an a generic all white image or something if a graphic is required for it to work)? This would at least let us see the name of the game a friend is playing if we don't have it installed.
