Essbase on docker - installation issue on MacOS - java: command not found

I get the following error at the very end of the installation:

Attaching to essbase
essbase | Starting up Essbase container, checking if configuration is needed
essbase | ./config-and-start.sh: line 16: java: command not found
essbase exited with code 127

MacOS BigSur 11.3. Sql server works. Docker_essbase_db_1 container also works. I have jdk Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0_291-b10) on the main path on macOS.

Downloaded 11.1.2.4 from oracle downloads.

Can someone please help? How do I fix this? Grateful for your response.

Hi Nohman,

I took a quick look at the script and it appears that the start script can't find Java in the system. Is JAVA_HOME set in the operating system? You should be able to type $JAVA_HOME to show the value of the environment variable.

I can have Jason Jones, the original author, take a look if you don't make progress.

However, I still get the same error:

And yes, it would be a great help indeed if Jason Jones can take out some time to have a look.

Additional point: I couldn't find: jdk-7u211-linux-x64.tar.gz, so I downloaded: jdk-8u291-linux-x64.tar.gz and renamed the file to jdk-7u211-linux-x64.tar.gz

Extraction, installation, images, and container for docker-essabse_db_1 works all well. I think the issue arises at the time of configuration when somehow docker can't find java.

Hi Nohman,

Did you check to see if Java is located at that location, /usr/bin/java, in the linux distribution? I would also not change the name of the tar file but rather adjust the DockerFile and any related settings. For example, in the Dockerfile, you may to adjust the Java version and folder in the lines shown below:

For various reasons beyond my control, Java 8 (or newer) will not work at all with EPM 11.1.2.4. Are you able to log in to Oracle's Edelivery service? If you have a free Oracle account you can login to download the later versions of Java 7 and then do the build.

Hi Jason, Thank you for getting back. The latest Java 7 version that I could download from Oracle is u80. I tried u80 and while most of the processes go through, things stop at a particular point. Could this be because of the java version? Also, I'm unable to run localhost:12080/easconsole/ Grateful for your guidance.
