So when we deploy this helm charts, we do not know which version of backstage , we are going to deploy...

Valid point. Currently Chart.yaml has no appVersion and the default image tag is latest, making it impossible to know which version gets deployed. Adding appVersion and pinning the default tag is standard practice in similar charts (argo-cd, airflow, cert-manager).

Note: Backstage is a framework, so the recommended practice is to build your own custom image — but that's not a reason to omit appVersion. It still serves as a reference for the version the chart was tested against.
