Closes #931. Queue task 3701.

Extends the check:doc-env-vars gate beyond cli.mdx:

  • Scans every English page in both docs trees (34 top-level .mdx under packages/web/src/content/docs + 61 under services/www/src/docs/content = 95 files); locale directories under the web tree are skipped (DOCS_LOCALES mirrors docsLocale in packages/web/src/i18n/locales.ts, stated in the script doc comment).
  • Excludes BOTH docs trees from the reader search, so the www tree no longer poses as a reader for web-tree names (the OPENCODE_MODEL false negative).
  • Adds a reasoned allowlist {name, reason} for the four legitimate no-reader shapes — OPENCODE_AUTH_JSON (external GitLab CI component input), OPENCODE_MODEL ({env:} substitution example), OPENCODE_CONSOLE_TOKEN (console provider-config example), OPENCODE_TOKEN (SDK sample code) — and fails on stale entries (name no longer documented-dead, or gained a real reader).
  • Workflow change is the step comment only; invocation stays bun run check:doc-env-vars.

Tests (run on laptop, pre-push): bun test check-doc-env-vars.test.ts — 12 pass, including a dead variable planted on a non-cli page being collected, an allowlisted name passing, and stale entries failing both ways. bun run check:doc-env-vars passes on this tree: all 27 documented OPENCODE_* variables have a reader or a reasoned allowlist entry.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Chores
    • Updated internal checks to scan English documentation across both documentation sites, while excluding translated pages.
    • Checks now flag documented environment variables that lack a corresponding application reader, as well as outdated or unexplained exceptions.
    • Added test coverage for documentation scanning and exception handling. These changes do not alter the end-user experience.

Walkthrough

The environment-variable guard now scans English MDX pages in both documentation trees, excluding configured web documentation locales. It checks documented variable names against repository readers and reasoned allowlist entries, and reports dead names and stale entries.

Changes: Documented environment variable guard

Layer / File(s) Summary
Documentation scope and validation
script/check-doc-env-vars.ts
The guard discovers English MDX pages in both documentation trees and skips configured top-level locale directories in the web tree. It checks for dead documented names and stale allowlist entries.
Guard execution and tests
script/check-doc-env-vars.ts, script/check-doc-env-vars.test.ts, .github/workflows/test.yml
The main check scans distinct variable names across discovered pages and fails when dead names or stale allowlist entries exist. Tests cover page discovery and allowlist outcomes. The workflow comment describes the expanded scope and allowlist requirement.

Full details: Linked Issues check

Explanation

Issue #931 requires an English-docs scan, explicit dispositions for readerless names, passing gate tests, and a non-CLI dead-variable test. englishDocsFiles scans .mdx files in both docs trees and skips configured web locales. gitHasReader excludes both docs trees. ALLOWLIST provides reasons for the four documented readerless names, and check reports stale entries. Tests cover both trees, locale exclusion, non-CLI collection, allowed dead names, unknown dead names, and stale entries. The workflow still runs bun run check:doc-env-vars.

Full details: Out of Scope Changes check

Explanation

The changes stay within issue #931. The script expands document discovery and reader exclusions, adds the required allowlist behavior, and reports stale entries. The tests verify these behaviors. The workflow change updates only the step comment and remains connected to the gate.

Full details: Docstring Coverage

Explanation

Docstring coverage is 75.00% which is insufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff with cyclomatic complexity of at least 2. Documentation-only edits and deletions within surviving functions are included; unchanged diff context and fully deleted functions are excluded. Analyzed 4 functions across 2 files. (1 skipped: 1 unsupported.)

Resolution

Write docstrings for the functions missing them to satisfy the coverage threshold.

Exercise the gate with the non-CLI fixture.

The new test validates englishDocsFiles and deadVars separately. It does not call check with the collected variables or invoke the gate entrypoint. If the gate reverted to scanning only cli.mdx, the test would still pass because OPENCODE_DEAD_PLANTED is asserted from the independently collected fixture list. Add an assertion that runs the actual gate logic with the fixture and expects the dead variable to fail.
