Application Tracker – Obsidian Vault Template

Most people track their applications in spreadsheets.

This template takes a different approach.

Instead of scattering information across documents, notes, and folders, everything lives inside a single Obsidian vault. Each application has its own structured space containing:

  • Program information
  • Application status and progress
  • Notes and documents related to that specific application

The goal is simple: one repository for everything related to your applications without loosing the dashbaord-like visualizations about the application states.

Why use this?

Using an Obsidian vault makes it easy to:

  • Keep all application information in one place
  • Link documents and notes together
  • Maintain a clean, structured repository instead of juggling multiple files

If you already enjoy working with Markdown and knowledge-base tools, this workflow feels very natural.

Trade-offs

This approach does require a bit more discipline than a spreadsheet.

To get the most out of it, you need to:

  • Maintain a consistent structure
  • Be comfortable working in Obsidian
  • Spend a little time setting things up

But once the system is in place, it becomes a powerful way to manage complex application processes.

What this was built for

I originally built this vault to manage applications to graduate programs and fellowships.

Feel free to adapt this vault to your own workflow.

Also, feel free to contribute to the template.
