How to back up over ssh?

As the question says, currently in Timeshift I only see the option to backup to disks. However, I want to back up to my NAS. How can I do that?

One workaround is to mount my NAS as /timeshift, but I noticed that the rsync command is not optimal and results in a slower backup.

timeshift does not support remote storage. You will have to use a diffrent tool or implement it yourself. Im not sure if the scope of timeshift as a simple snapshot utility is a good fit for remote backup at all.

timeshift recommends backing up to an external harddrive. Why can I back up to a drive connected via USB but not one connected via ethernet? Sounds like the same use case.
