Adding support to new packages

Hi, I was trying to look up any documentation on how to add new packages to the opp_env, such that someone can reproduce my work, but couldn't find any. Please there is something, a pointer would be greatly appreciated.

You are right. We are lacking on this. Originally we started opp_env to be able to install various popular frameworks.

Ideally, it would be great if a user would be able to create a single command line to reproduce simulation without ANY involvement from our side. Originally we had a external.json file to describe project, but it turned out that it is not expressive enough so now we have an external.py file that describes them. As these are python files, they can do anything on the user computer and we were reluctant to offer a functionality where unverified code are executed on the user machine. However we are OK accepting pull requests for the database. We already have some papers included here e.g.:

just check out opp_env for development and follow the patter in external.py by adding your own project for your paper. Once you tested you can send a pull requests against the main opp_env repo and we will merge it for the next release.

On long term, we could have something like a command line where you specify the dependencies + an URL for your own project, like:

opp_env install simu5g-1.3.0 https://github.com/myname/myrepo.git@my_paper_version

I keep this issue, so we can document further work on this topic

Thank you. It would be great I can merge in the future. The threat to run malicious code on user machine is real.

I will try to do the external.py thing. I am not super familiar with the typical omnet++ workflow either, which makes it more difficult for me.

I basically created a co-simulation between OMNeT (OpenCV2X, Veins..), SUMO and CARLA simulator. Now I am trying to package it in a way that is reproduceable by my colleagues.

Another issue I noticed with OpenCV2X and Veins is that they require specific version of SUMO which is older, and not available through the OS package manager. If I build that version of SUMO pulling from their github source code, it might be nice.

we can take a look at your repo. @adamgeorge309 is actively working to pull various models into the opp_env repo. Let us know your repo and some instructions and we will see what we can do. We have plenty of experience how to do this.
