Custom N:N junction table - Tag Picker Component issue

I am hoping to use the Tag Picker Component to display tags in a custom junction table, rather than a default one generated whenever you create a new N:N relationship in Dataverse. My custom junction table connects a virtual table aaduser with a custom entity. I have the tags component working with the automatically created junction tables, but can't seem to get it working with the custom junction table, and I am wondering if this components supports using custom junction tables?
