No functionality on Safari favorites on Start Page

It's working on Safari in general, but I have my default New Tab / Page on Safari to be the "Start Page" with a set of pinned favorites.

The middletouch functionality doesn't work there. It works once I open a tab or from other links within safari. Just not that Start Page.

Is this a setting in Safari I can change?

I can Command+Click the links in the Start Page and open them, but Middle doesn't seem to be working.

Looks like an oversight on Safari.

If I were to allow setting cmd+click instead of middle click (mouse button 3), would this be desirable for you?

It's not necessary. I was mainly curious if it was something Safari was blocking. Unless you had a huge demand for it, I think the current functionality will suffice.

Good to know, I'll still keep this in mind for a future update - I bet there's probably more scenarios that have been overlooked elsewhere in macOS like this.
