Spicetify does not work on Spotify 1.2.78 at this moment. This is something we're aware of. Please refrain from creating new issues about this.

How to Downgrade Your Spotify Version

These instructions are for Windows (Spotify from the website) and macOS users. Downgrading can be helpful if spicetify hasn't yet caught up with the newest Spotify version.

1. Check Compatibility:
   • First, see if the Spotify version you want to downgrade to is supported by your current Spicetify version.
   • Go to the #compatibility channel to find a list of supported Spotify versions (listed from oldest to newest).
2. Download the Correct Spotify Version:
   • Windows/macOS/Linux: You can find download links for older Spotify versions here.
3. Disable Automatic Updates:
   • Close Spotify completely.
   • Open your command line (Command Prompt, PowerShell, or Terminal).
   • Type spicetify spotify-updates block and press Enter. This will prevent Spotify from automatically updating to the latest version.
   • ^^^ THIS COMMAND DOES NOT WORK ON WINDOWS RIGHT NOW. FOLLOW ALTERNATIVE METHOD ^^^
4. Apply Spicetify:
   • In the same command line window, type spicetify backup apply and press Enter. This will apply your Spicetify customizations to the downgraded version.

When a New Spicetify Update is Released:
Once Spicetify is updated to support the latest Spotify version, follow these steps to re-enable updates:

• Windows:
  • Open your command line and run spicetify spotify-updates unblock.
  • Alternatively: Delete the Update folder located at %localappdata%\Spotify\.
• macOS:
  • Open Terminal and run spicetify spotify-updates unblock.
  • Alternatively: Delete the Update folder located at ~/Library/Application Support/Spotify/PersistentCache/.
• Install the latest Spotify update.
• Run spicetify backup apply to re-apply your Spicetify customizations.

  Manual Instructions to Block Updates (Alternative):
  If the above command doesn't work, here are manual steps:

Windows:

• Open Command Prompt (not PowerShell) as an administrator.
• Enter these commands one line at a time, pressing Enter after each:

del "%localappdata%\Spotify\Update"
mkdir "%localappdata%\Spotify\Update"
icacls "%localappdata%\Spotify\Update" /deny "%username%":D
icacls "%localappdata%\Spotify\Update" /deny "%username%":R

* del "%localappdata%\Spotify\Update" command can fail. Do not worry about it. Ignore and move on to the next command

macOS:

• Open Finder and navigate to ~/Library/Application Support/Spotify/PersistentCache/Update.
• Delete everything inside this folder (empty it).
• Open Terminal and run: chflags uchg ~/Library/Application Support/Spotify/PersistentCache/Update
