can't install with brew install --HEAD julia

I get the following errors when trying to install using the command:

$ brew install --HEAD julia
Warning: Your Xcode (4.5) is outdated
Please install Xcode 4.5.2.
==> Installing julia dependency: open-mpi
Error: No available formula for python 

I have python 2.7 installed and when I try to install a python2.6 brew gives a similar response . And I have used brew search python and get the following:python24 python25 python26 python3 python31 python32. But brew will not install any of these. Brew just gives me: No available formula for python

Can you run brew update and try again? If that doesn't work, can you post your brew --config output and brew doctor output?

The following is the output of "brew --config". When I saw I was using gcc4.2, I tried to install gcc45.

This is fairly bizarre and is indicative of a problem with your homebrew installation. Have you been experimenting at all with homebrew? Have you accidentally deleted your python formula?

Try going into your homebrew folder:

$ cd $(brew --prefix)

And running git status, which should tell you if you have missing files or an incomplete merge or something. If you don't can you post the output of git remote show origin:

$ git status
# On branch master
nothing to commit, working directory clean
$ git remote show origin
* remote origin
  Fetch URL: https://github.com/mxcl.homebrew.git
...

Your output should show the above, unless something is wonky, or you've been messing with Homebrew. (Which is fine, we just need to figure out what's broken and fix it) The more information you can give me about your homebrew installation, the better.

You were right , it was my installation. I reinstalled . Then I installed fortran4.7 and everything seems to work. I was able to install 'julia'.
Sorry to bother you with this problem. Chalk it up to my inexperience with Homebrew.

Not a problem! Did you install gfotran 4.7 because you had issues with gfortran 4.2? Or did you just want gfortran 4.7 for some other reason? I'm curious because some people have reported issues with gfortran 4.2, but I have been unable to reproduce

I did not try it with gfortran 4.2. I just decided to update to the latest version of gfortran. It took approx 20 min with my iMac I5 10.8.2.

I try to update it everytime something breaks. :) Other than that, there's not much reason to update it, unless I come out with a new feature or something. The next "feature" planned to come out is the ability to choose between OpenBLAS and Accelerate as the backing linear algebra libraries. This is dependent on this feature in Homebrew being released, though, so it'll have to wait until then.

I also update this repo every time I myself change something in Julia's build process, which is fairly often, I must say. Looking at my commit history, it looks like I can barely go a week without updating something.

I'm going to close this issue now, so if you have more questions, please open another one.
