Describe the motivation
Currently base niri has no screen tearing support (i think its an issue related to smithay?) which means that everything (including games) only runs at the monitor's refresh rate... this leads to increased input latency on lower refresh-rate monitors (60 / 75 hz).

I hesitate to package this since, while it does implement a feature some people want, it seems like the type of project that will quickly fizzle out as niri continues to progress. Why isn't this just a PR on the niri repo anyways?

it is a pr on smithay that's been open since feb 2024 and from what i can tell that's what's needed
