My Work: show generated text and the UI in the owner's language (Turkish first) #5155

Open

Description

@mehmetcelik7

My Work is where I follow my agents' work, and I type every ask in Turkish, but most of what My Work shows is still in English. It comes from two places that need different fixes.

1. Text the refresh agents write

Request titles, review summaries, narratives and milestones, focus-area names and goals, the build story, learned preferences, and the areas, asks and rules from owner-goals. Neither request-progress nor owner-goals names a language, so this text comes out in English, and a review whose conversation was in Turkish sometimes comes out in Turkish, so one page can mix both. Card summaries already follow each request's language since #5104, and #4918 made My Work recognize asks in any language.

A PR for this part follows: both skills, and the subagent tasks they hand out, write every value My Work shows in the human language most of the owner's asks are written in, ignoring code, file paths, URLs, repository and product names. Quotes stay verbatim, a story or review written in another language is rewritten on its next update, and an owner who writes in English sees no change. It changes no code.

2. Fixed UI text

Navigation, headings, buttons and state labels ("Your move", "Needs your decision", "Approve", …) are string literals spread across the 65 .tsx files under src/ui/my-work/src. #2623 was closed because internationalization needs its own design, and #2645 (i18n for the startup UI labels) is tracked in plan-12 (#2785), so I'd like to agree on a design before sending a PR. A proposal:

  • One strings module for My Work, with English as the source and one catalog file per language. A missing key falls back to English.
  • The language comes from a setting (for example CLAUDE_MEM_UI_LANGUAGE) and defaults to the browser's language when a catalog for it exists.
  • Dates and numbers are formatted with Intl in the same language.
  • No new dependency, and a test that checks every catalog has exactly the English keys and the same placeholders.

I'd contribute the Turkish catalog with that PR. Other languages can be added later, one catalog file each.

Questions:

  1. Is this direction fine, or would you prefer a library such as i18next?
  2. Should the language come from a setting, the browser, or both?
  3. Should it cover My Work only, or the classic viewer too?
