Sorry for the delay in getting this to you guys. I had some competing projects but didn't want this to get lost on my harddrive.
This PR addresses the vast majority of gfortran compiler warnings. These were mostly unused variables. I strongly recommend that you take a look at the remaining warnings and resolve them and then make it a requirement (at least in CI) to compile with with the
-Werrorflag to prevent errors from accreting again.
