New blog post for the Obsidian integration.

Angle

First post aimed at a prosumer / knowledge-management audience rather than agent-framework developers. Targets fresh SEO surface ("Obsidian AI", "chat with your notes", "AI second brain") that none of our other posts cover. Lead narrative is the citations-first, vault-stays-canonical design: every chat answer cites the source note, sync is one-way, conversations aren't stored by default.

What's covered

  • The problem: large vaults are hard to reason over; related-notes search ≠ answering a question
  • "Source of truth stays in Obsidian" design rule (one-way sync, citations, reconvergence)
  • How it works: file events → retain/deleteDocument/reconcile; reflect-backed chat
  • Grounded chat with citations + reasoning disclosure + scope dropdowns
  • Implicit scoping (vault / folder+ancestors / date auto-tags via tag_groups)
  • One bank shared across UI + API (n8n, Hermes, direct calls)
  • Install (BRAT beta flow), settings table, commands, tradeoffs, recap

Accuracy

Sourced from the integration's README, docs-integrations/obsidian.md, and manifest.json:

  • Plugin v0.1.2, id hindsight, minAppVersion 1.7.2, beta via BRAT — called out in a :::note callout
  • Settings/defaults, commands, scoping tags, and file-event→operation mapping quoted from source
  • "Mental models" framed as roadmap, not shipped (matches docs)

Test suite: 46/46 passing (npm test / vitest, 6 files).

Build

npm run build is green. No broken links from this post (only the pre-existing version-0-5-5 anchor warning, unrelated). Body ~1,900 words, em-dash-free.

TODO

  • Cover image is a placeholder — swap for final art
  • Flip out of draft when ready

Walkthrough of the Hindsight Obsidian plugin: one-way vault sync into a
memory bank, grounded chat panel backed by reflect with note citations
and a reasoning disclosure, implicit vault/folder/date scoping, and the
"vault stays the source of truth" design rule. Includes a beta/BRAT
install callout (plugin v0.1.2) and Cloud vs self-hosted setup.

The plugin shipped to the Obsidian community plugin store. Replace the
"beta via BRAT" callout and install steps with the one-click store flow
(Settings → Community plugins → Browse → Hindsight), keep BRAT as the
beta-track alternative, add store availability to the TL;DR, and drop the
now-stale "Beta means BRAT" tradeoff.
